“Melting Point”

  • Taken on a Nikon d40 in my garden in Beaconsfield
  • Aperture: f/5.6
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/125

I took this photo by placing an ice cube on top of a metal lid and waiting for it to melt. At first I tried to take the photo by placing the ice cube on top of a wooden board, but the effect was not the same. I really like this photo as the metal background and water reflects the natural light, as well as highlighting the bubbles in the water and make for an abstract photograph of water melting.

In editing I enforced the clarity and contrast of the photo, and also played around with the colours and light.

If I could have taken this photo again I would have focused more on trying different camera settings from this particular angle. I took many photos, but explored with different settings at different angles. I wish I could have found the best angle first and then tried to see how this photo would have looked with a smaller aperture.
