“Worn Stories”

Wandering around with my eyes open for something decaying I was drawn to the deteriorating books in this dumpster – to the various textures, colours and level of decay. I especially like how the photo brings out a story in your head about why someone has thrown them away or where they might have come from.

I tried various techniques in editing and eventually settled on this version where I’ve emphasised the yellow colours, whilst slightly under-saturating the photo to make the items look older.

If I could take this photo again I would try to take a couple of steps backwards and see what impact it would have had to include the actual dumpster. I would also continue to explore with different settings as I find the little you see of the sky overexposed.
