“Dogge”

• Shot on an iPhone5 on a lounge

For the final week’s keyword ‘creature’ I took a photo of the Great Dane Mojo, laying on the lounge. I took the photo on an iPhone5 with the lighting source coming from the ceiling. Although it was taken in colour, the original idea when taking the shot was to make it black and white due to the strong contrasts of Mojo’s black fur and the light sheet.

In editing I used a Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop CC to clarify, contrast and sharpen the image. I converted it to black and white by desaturating the image, as I think this version highlighted the contrasts in Mojo’s fur better than ‘Convert to Grayscale’. I used burn and dodge to lighten and darken areas of Mojo’s fur, as well as the sharpen tool to intensify his eyes. Mojo also had a pillow behind him which I thought disturbed the photo and edited out with the ‘clone stamp tool’.

I really like the subject matter and the look in his eyes, as it seems like he’s always contemplating about life. However, I wish there was less noise in the image, but I think this is the restriction of the iPhone5 camera.
